Archos 7 Home Tablet

I have never heard of Archos before, but they supposedly just came out with a new 7-inch Android-based tablet named the Archos 7. Archos is a French consumer electronics company that has developed a variety of products, including digital audio players, portable video players, digital video recorders, PDAs, and now tablet PCs. They also have a Windows-based Archos 9 PC tablet. Described as a tablet that bridges the gap between a smartphone and a PC, the Archos 7 provides access to the web, customization of limited number Android Apps, and multi-media content on its wide high resolution screen (800 x 480). So far, it doesn’t stand out too much from other tablet PCs, but on the plus side, the Archos 7 is more affordable. Priced at under $200, it is more than half the cost of a base model iPad!

  • Archos is a famous company that has long been a leader in personal video devices. (Even a casual look at CNET's category door, or the shelves of BestBuy at any time in the last several years, would reveal this).

If they stay true to form with this new launch, then expect them to be strong on video-and-audio support and ease-of-use, but short on office-app-like functionality.

  • If it runs off of Android, the lack of office-apps may not matter. Just nab them from the Andoird App library.
